Why hospitals and kitchens spec it

Solid surface is an engineered acrylic-and-mineral material, not a quarried stone — and that's exactly the point. Because it's cast rather than cut from a lot, it's fully non-porous straight out of the mold. There's no sealing schedule to manage, no grout lines to scrub, and no microscopic pitting for bacteria or food debris to hide in.

The bigger advantage shows up at the seams — or rather, the lack of them. We join solid surface runs with a color-matched adhesive and route the joint flush, so a nurses' station, a food-service prep line, or a lab casework run reads as one continuous surface from end to end. Integrated, thermoformed sinks are standard practice, not an upcharge: the sink bowl fuses to the countertop with the same seamless joint, eliminating the rim gap where standing water and grime collect on a drop-in sink.
